There are many reasons why your teeth may not be straight. The position of your teeth can be inherited from your parents, or caused by an accident, thumb sucking or the early loss of your milk teeth. Also, as time goes by your teeth may gradually shift and become crooked.

These factors can influence the look of your smile and may also affect the way your upper and lower jaws meet, which can lead to jaw and bite problems. Invisalign invisible braces

Although straightening is often carried out in childhood, your teeth can also be straightened in adulthood using invisible, removable braces such as the Invisalign system.

Teeth whitening

Your teeth may naturally darken as you age – teeth whitening or bleaching can brighten your smile very quickly, leaving you looking younger and beaming with confidence!

It’s normal for teeth to become yellower or for some teeth to look darker than others, even if they are quite healthy. Teeth can also become discoloured if the roots have been damaged or diseased and the nerve inside has died. Whitening treatments will improve the appearance of your teeth without removing any of the natural tooth surface.

The advantage of having teeth whitening at Clarence House is that we are properly trained to assess whether whitening is the most appropriate solution for you and we can advise you whether to opt for in-surgery or home whitening.

Take home whitening system:

This is the original, tried-and-tested method that is carried out at home. The technique consists of applying whitening gel into a special, custom made tray which fits comfortably over your teeth. The tray is worn for a couple of hours each day or night for up to two weeks.

Is teeth whitening suitable for everyone?

Whilst most people are suitable for whitening, there are a few exceptions which we will discuss with you at your assessment appointment.

For example, if you have had fillings or crowns at the front of the mouth, these will not change colour and may cause a mismatch. Sometimes these fillings and crowns can be lighter, in which case the surrounding teeth could be carefully whitened to match as closely as possible. One of the advantages of having your whitening with us is that we can discuss the most appropriate solution for your particular needs.

Is it safe to whiten my teeth?

As you would expect from clarence house, we only use products that we know to be safe and effective.

Are there any side effects?

It is perfectly normal for your teeth to be sensitive to hot and cold food and drink for a few days after treatment.

When should i whiten my teeth?

Whitening can be done at any time. However, if you are planning some cosmetic work, we would normally advise that you start with whitening. That way, any new work could be made to match the new shade of your teeth, for a consistent white smile.

How white will my teeth be?

We use a shade guide to identify the original colour of your teeth. This allows you to compare your teeth on completion of your treatment with their original colour.

How long does whitening last?

The colour change is permanent although teeth can fade a little over time. However, the amount of fade is minimal and you will not return to your pretreatment shade. With the home system, you can buy the gel and apply it using your existing trays to top up the whitening 18 months – 2 years later.

Dental bonding

As well as teeth whitening, we offer stain removal from teeth using an effective, air polishing system.

Tooth stain removal with Spaclean

One of our most popular smile makeover treatments is the spaclean. This takes around 20 minutes and gently and effectively removes surface staining, from, for example, tea, coffee, red wine and smoking. A Spaclean can also leave your teeth feeling less sensitive. The results are great and the usual reaction is ‘wow!’

For this treatment, we use the Airflow^® Polishing System, which can remove most surface stains on your teeth more effectively than traditional hygienist methods.
